Cleaning out 2009

How can it already be 2010.  I heard that it is to be called Twenty Ten and not Two Thousand and Ten.  Who knew there was a rule to these things.  Aaron and I think this sounds ok, but Twenty Eleven doesn't have the same ring, so we will have to wait for 'them' to tell us what to call it next year.  We spent the last 4 days (minus Sat- we went to Nebraska) organizing and cleaning the storage space in our basement.  This was no easy task (for those of you who have seen it, you know).  It took us much longer than we thought because amongst the boxes were boxes from each of our parents, that they packed away and just wrote "Cherish Kansas" or "Aaron's stuff" on.  It was fun to see what was inside.  There were a lot of memories in there, year books, high school FCA bible with inscriptions, calendar from freshman year in college (when we met), poems, letters from my elementary school (4th grade) class - after I moved to Austin.  The find that was the most fun, is my dad had given me some of his toys from when he was a kid.  One thing was Zip the monkey from the Howdy Doody Show.  Apparently they didn't make many of them, and this was the original one. you can see zip here.  I looked around online and found out that they are selling for between $150-300.  I don't know how these people are, but interesting none the less.  I have no intentions of selling it, but it did spare it from the garage sale, or from becoming one of the children's new toys.  Oh, and there were 2 of them.  Pretty cool.

I am so happy to have it organized down there.  There really is a lot of space.  Now I have to have a garage sale - oh and haul a LOT of trash out to the curb.  I did find a new project also, there were tubs of photos not in albums, and lots of empty albums.  So I will have to get that done.  I also apparently collect scrap books, as there are 5 - yes 5 - empty books down there.  I really like journals, not to write in, but to purchase.  I love the smell of the paper, and the different bindings.  I guess I also have an affinity for scrapbooks, who knew.  Note to self - you can stop buying them now, we have plenty.  I wonder what 2010 will uncover?
